    Do I need sailing experience?
No! - We have opportunities for those with no experience to enjoy sailing - and to learn about the sport without pressure. Our boats have a 'no shouting' policy and our coaching style is female oriented to guide beginners through the basics. Certain events suggest previous knowledge, but this is not essential and we will take you through that when you enquire.

    Who can come with me?
Any female will enjoy every aspect of a girlsforsail holiday. On our overseas regatta holidays we recommend that you are over 18 because it balances the age group in the team, but really anyone who is big enough to use a winch and see over the wheel will enjoy one of our events, especially the courses. We have no maximum age, but this is a physical holiday and a basic level of health is required. We are proud to say that we have encouraged ladies who spring around the yacht at just under 70. Helen Tew sailed across the Atlantic on her own in her 80's so why should age stop anyone doing anything! Go girls!!
Oh...we forgot....of course, no boys! We do take boys sailing...please see the section "for the boys" which is located under "other stuff" on the website.

We do run specific 'youth' events, mainly at weekends, to encourage all ages into this fantastic sport.

So, do I need to be fit?
No! This is not an athletic holiday. However, there are physical demands and so a basic level of fitness does make the experience more enjoyable. Limitations focus more on height and weight which we will explain further when you contact us.However, All persons taking part in girlsforsail Ltd events should be in good health and have a reasonable basic level of fitness. Please inform us if you are unable to swim less than 25 metres although being unable to swim should not deter you from sailing....we will keep you on the yacht and out of the water!

What type of people come on your holidays?
Women from all walks of life have travelled with us, including business women looking for a challenge and housewives looking to escape their husbands! Some are quite competitive, others simply want to experience the beauty of the ocean and the calm of the outdoors. All of them want an opportunity to learn about something we love in a relaxed, calm & safe manner.

Which holiday should I go for?
Give us a chance to discuss your experience, your interests and your budget and we will be happy to recommend a way to enjoy sailing without any hassle. See our guide to the right event in our 'about' section for more information.

How far in advance should I book?
The more time you give yourself, the more choice you will have. If you are thinking of making a trip and are not sure - just call us and we will be happy to advise you. Regatta places are always limited so book these well in advance.

Do the boats come with linen?
That depends on the event; most yachts provide all linen including towels for showering, pillows and blankets. In colder climates we tend to ask the individuals to bring their own sleeping bags, liners etc so that you are individually comfortable and warm.
The details are in the event literature, by event. If you are unclear, please check with a representative at our head Office 0208 374 0993

What safety equipment do you have?
The yachts are fully equipped with all regulation safety aids as laid out by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). They include lifejackets, safety harness, first aid kits, flares, life rafts, vhs radios, gps and full navigational equipment. Our skippers are all fully RYA qualified and experienced in the use of all safety equipment - your safety is always our first priority.

    What equipment should I bring?
When you confirm your booking, we will provide you with a list of recommended equipment for your specific trip. However, consistently we advise that you bring a pair of deck shoes and wet weather gear, if you have it. If not, it is available for hire at (£5 per day per set: please reserve when you book your holiday). Layers of clothing are best, so no need to go out and spend lots of money. We recommend a high factor water based sun cream during the summer events to ensure protection against the sun is maximised. Otherwise, little else is needed. If in doubt, please take a look at our clothing shop.

I'm still a little confused, what should I do?
Please contact us with any queries you have, however trivial you may think them. We are here to be as informative as we can and to provide you with as much detail as you feel you need.

Will you tailormake a holiday for me?
Yes, if physically possible!! If you have a group of people who want to do something special together then give us a call. We can organise your holiday so that you do exactly what you want, when and where you want. If you would prefer a long weekend to a week, if you want a particular combination of sports that we don't offer in the brochure, or if you want to travel outside our normal season dates - please call us. All our resorts have far more to offer than we can possibly detail in the brochure. Call us with your ideas and we'll price them up for you.

What is included in the price?
At girlsforsail we know that you are all busy ladies and we aim to ensure that everything you need is included in the price of the sailing holiday/course that you choose. You should be able to just pack n go!!

    Yacht and Skipper/mate.
On all events we will provide a quality yacht that is exclusively for you, along with the right amount of quality crew for the event selected.

    Breakfasts and lunches
please see individual event details for notes about catering aboard.

Evening meals will be taken ashore (if that is possible!!...there are not many good restaurants mid Atlantic!).
We do provide some evening meals on our RYA sailing courses to enable night sailing practise on overnight stops on mooring buoys etc.

On a 5 day course there will be 2 meals taken aboard the yacht.
On cruising/racing events, evening meals will be taken ashore.
We do this because our experience has shown that the days events can be quite intense with lots of exhilirating racing and general exertion during the day!!! Its the end to a perfect day to chill out with a cocktail in a lovely bar/restaurant/local pub with some quality food and local entertainment, (with lots of space!).

    Transfers to the yacht:

All of our prices are for a sailing holiday that starts from a marina. No flights are included.

On all the events in the UK it is very easy to get to the location by train car or even ferry!! The price given is a price that is from the marina.

If flights are required to the destination, the price of the flight is not included. If this is not the case, please discuss the transfer options at the time of your booking.

So, in summary, on all of our events you get.....

    „Ç Exclusive use of yacht
    „Ç Professional crew
    „Ç Welcome drink
    „Ç Yacht Insurance
„Ç Sail training by RYA Skipper

What do your customers think of girlsforsail?
Not that we always like to blow our own trumpet (!) but, just in case you were still hesitating over booking with us, here’s what just a few of our satisfied customer said about us last year!:

“Had the most fabulous time, great company, great sailing and great places to see. Our skipper, Antonia, was wonderful, always working hard, but making it look so wasy. It was extremely well organized from start to finish.” Jacki, Antigua, Christmas 2003

“One of the best things I have done in my life this so far was to sign up for the Fastnet campaign” Bev, Solent, 2003

    “Quite simply…a life-changing experience” Sue, Antigua, 2003

“Fantastic skipper, great sailing experience and long hard partying combined, to result in an unforgettable holiday!” Kathleen, Antigua, 2003

“No words can describe…just go, have fun and learn!” Helen, Antigua, 2003

“Definitely learnt enough and in my own stride, it was never too much to ask again….” Donna, Solent, May 2003

    “WOW!” Jenny, Antigua, 2003

“Value was the quality that you had in absolute oodles (Londoners you see – we always expect to pay over the odds!) From your site, and the huge amount of things that you do, I was expecting the whole setup to be much bigger and commercial than it actually was. In fact it was a real pleasure to find that actually it was a lot more personal and friendly, yet still so professional. You really had thought of everything – and the girlie touches were great (and I’m not a girlie girl by any means !)” Heide, Solent, July 2003

“It was wonderful, can't stop thinking of various moments and longing to go back and do it all again. Put me down for 2004!” Theresa, 2003

    Can i have a discount?
Yes! There are two ways of gaining a discount:
1.Introduce a friend: We offer a 10% discount to any customer who introduces a friend. In order to receive the discount you must advise Girlsforsail Ltd at the time of booking that you were the reason for the introduction. You do not have to book your event at the same time, but we need to know that the booking was due to you. We will then add this note onto our database and your 10% discount will be applied the next time you book. The discount will be valid for one year from the date of your friend’s booking and can only be used once. You can introduce as many people as you wish to Girlsforsail ltd. You are only able to use one 10% discount to one Holiday event.

2.If you come with a friend or 2 YES!!!! (see below)

We offer a uniquely designed product for ladies who enjoy a high standard of living. Sailing is a little 'rufty tufty'....but the options we provide are different from other companies because we have good quality yachts of a manageable size that encourages learning, excellent instruction and the attention to detail that makes us very special.

Don't be surprised to find our yachts supplied with a tablecloth, matching hand towels, Molton Brown hand creams and soap and the odd clarins bottle lying around!!! Likewise with food, we get the best for you that can be
achieved on a yacht, with napkins a must and the the odd silver serving platter for the smoked salmon bagels!!

In every thing we do, wherever possible, we like to add a little bit extra to make sure you have the best experience with us. We find the best restaurants for you, know where the best shops, where the best parties are (with us normally!!) and our skippers will do everything in their power to ensure we help you with every aspect of your holiday.
    Its a girl thing!!!!

Because of this, we set up all events for gals to join any event on their own and there are NO additional costs for coming on your own like with most holidays where a single supplement is charged.

    DISCOUNTS
Everyone likes a discount, don't they? We thought we would tell you about ways to make your holidays go further:

*Where 2 friends book on the same event together we are delighted to offer you a 5% discount.
(the deposit and booking forms must be received at the same time to qualify for the discount)
*If you cant decide which friend to bring with you to get the discount, bring them all!! if 3 of you book on the same event at the same time, we will give a 7.5% discount.

This also applies for groups of friends too, (hen-nights, reunions etc) where we will ensure that we really push the boat out to guarantee they are events never to be forgotten! Please give the office a call and receive an individual quotation

    The small print!
The deposit and booking forms must be received at the same time to qualify for the discount.
Should you book together and one of you then is forced to cancel, the discount does not qualify.

Why do you have this policy?
We are proud to say that we introduce many ladies to sailing and as a result great friends are made on the yachts As a result of new friendships many social lives get amazingly busy (n=much to the envy of their husbands etc!!) and we have an average 70% repeat booking rate.
We want to encourage more people to sail and it makes our lives easier to have 2 people book than one. So we offer a saving when this happens.

    The small print!
We are unable to offer a retrospective discount. This is when a group of ladies discuss an event which excites them and they all book individually, at different times. They will not qualify for a group discount becasue the booking is not received on the same day. It is part of the girlsforsail event to encourage friendships through a common interest and are so proud to introduce such great women to each other.

Can i come on my own?
Of course.....it's what 99% of all our customers do! Most people who decide to take the plunge decide at a different time to all of their friends...so we design our Holidays for exactly this. There are no premiums on our prices for this.
