About The Event

Racing across the Atlantic is a lifelong dream for so many sailors – and what better way to do than in an all-female crew who have a dedication to safety and FUN!

Our highly qualified sailing instructors have extensive experience in all conditions and will work to ensure you and the boat are race ready - you will be in very good hands!

The approximately 14 -16 day voyage sets sail from Arrecife, Lanzarote in the North Atlantic, before taking us south through the Equator where temperatures rise and we cross into the heat of the Caribbean island of Grenada.

If you have a sense of adventure and want to cross the Atlantic with true racing spirit, then this is the event for you. Racing against boats of all shapes and sizes (from 30ft to 100ft+, including well known boats such as Leopard – a famous Farr 100) the competition that will get your adrenaline pumping.

The boat

We will be racing on our 40.7 Beneteau Hot Stuff.  Hot Stuff has been specifically chosen as she is easy to handle, great for coaching! She is fully equipped for offshore racing and has completed The Fastnet, RORC 600 and four Transatlantic crossings with us at GFS.

She is the perfect cruiser/racer and our faithful companion for long distances - having a wide hull and fractional rig for fast and stable sailing. She flies a symmetric spinnaker which we use in conjunction with smooth hoist and drops of the genoa on long runs. There is no denying us girls sometimes don't have the physical strength of the boys but with our technical ability and a well-chosen yacht we can do just as well.  All of your time will be spent living as crew-mates on your yacht.  Hot Stuff has 9/10 berths with 3 cabins and a saloon so she  will normally have 2 - 3 persons in each cabin on a rotating watch system. On occasions we use the saloon for additional sleeping areas.

  • First of all we want to give you some freedom, we want you to feel absolutely able to do anything onboard, so we will greet you, make you feel welcome, confident and safe, and of course you won't have anyone rushing you! You can learn at your own pace with our skippers and feel the benefit of this in your handling of our yacht!
  • We pride ourselves on our levels of tuition.  There's no such thing as a 'silly' question!  There's no shouting onboard and as it's also your holiday, we want you to have fun and go home relaxed and satisfied with your time here! Not to mention you get to meet new lifelong friends!

Our values are simple: Encourage, Support, Challenge and Respect!

In preparation for this challenging race we will be running a team building and sail training weekend in the UK in the Autumn (date tbc) and including a passage making sail from La Corrunna down to The Canaries in the run up to the race start. This will provide a great opportunity to embed into the watch system and to get to know the yacht and team well before the race start.
