About The Event

A 10 day trip around the beautiful islands of Dominica and Martinique.

Perfect for the adventurous soul who wants to see the real Caribbean, think untouched waterfalls, hidden beaches and rainforest hikes, as well as some awesome sailing. We set sail from St Lucia and head straight up to Dominica. If we feel up for it we can do this over 24 hours, or it can be broken up into a more leisurely two day sail. Expect exhilarating sailing conditions playing with the ocean swell as we head north, with dolphins and turtles being a common sight off the bow.

Once in Dominica we will spend a day or 2 exploring the North of the Island, taking a cruise down the Indian river, looking out for the native parrots, spending some time foraging in the rain forest for coconuts, avocados, mangos to enjoy on a secluded beach, and filling the spice cupboard with wild nutmeg, cinnamon and bay. There are some beautiful hikes through the rainforest, experiencing any of Dominicas 11 active volcanoes, so bring your walking boots. The south of the island is a days sail, protected by the island we have steady winds, crystal clear waters and flat seas. Stopping off at a secluded bay of lunch before mooring up in Rosseau, the capital. This vibrant city has everything you think off when you think Caribbean, friendly people, great food, beautiful buildings and the rhythmic shuffle of island life. From here we will visit the waterfalls, snorkle through champagne and hike up to the bubbling lake, a sulphur pool hidden in the mountains with healing properties (as long as you are happy sharing it with the monkeys!).

Next south to Martinique, a picturesque French island for some island RnR. Think rum punch, amazing food and white sandy beaches, the perfect way to finish off your unique sailing adventure. Fully rejuvenated we will head back to St Lucia, having experienced the real Caribbean, a million miles away from an all inclusive beach resort!

Your skipper on this holiday is RYA qualified and you can take advantage of her knowledge, either to build your general sailing skills or to concentrate on particular areas you wish to practice! You can be as involved as you wish, whether taking the helm, changing a sail, pulling on a few sheets or simply sitting back and enjoying the atmosphere! Whatever we do we ensure you'll be safe and have fun.

Pre-Course Requirements

As these trips will take us out to sea between the islands there will be occasions when the weather and sea state can be a little unsettled. Therefore we recommend having at least some sailing experience in advance of undertaking this trip. Open to competent crew and up!

The boat

We mostly coach on yachts of between 37 and 41ft. Our yachts have been specifically chosen as they are easy to handle, great for learning! There is no denying us girls sometimes don't have the physical strength of the boys but with our technical ability and a well-chosen yacht we can do just as well. You will usually find yourself aboard an Élan 37, Jeanneau 37 or a Beneteau 40.7. All of your time will be spent living as crew-mates on your yacht.  Most of the yachts have 9/10 berths with 3 cabins and a saloon so the boats will normally have 2 persons in each cabin i.e. 6 - this is always the case for an RYA course, MAX 6 persons on-board. On some events e.g. races we use the saloon which can sleep an additional 2-4 person.
