About The Event
Irish and International sailors enjoy the balance of great racing, held over a variety of courses, along with the liveliest of "craic" ashore which makes this an event that you just do not want to miss.
This is a very lively and challenging event but we allow time for some team coaching during which time we'll cover:
- Racing rules
- Starting techniques
- Upwind boat handling
- Downwind boat handling
Our professional crew will train you to ensure that the racing is safe, fun and that each crew member is able to make a valuable contribution to the team effort. Prior race experience is not essential but if you have never sailed before we recommend you get a head-start by booking a weekend sailing before the event.
Strong tides, erratic weather and 400 competitors, certainly make this a challenging event! There is always one day when you wake, turn your suntanned face up to the grey skies and wonder if are we really going to race in this?!!'
The infamous Crosshaven tented village comes alive straight after racing as the crews come ashore to relax and swap stories over a few post race drinks. The fun is non stop and the buzz is really exhilarating.
And then, theres the general socialising!! If you work it out.. 400 boats with an average of 10 people aboard thats ....4000 sailors...no wonder Crosshaven is buzzing!! Sadly, its still exceptionally male dominated so the beer tents are still packed with happy chaps having lots of racing discussions!!
There are a huge range of pubs and restaurants so we can help coordinate the social programme to make sure the whole team are happy!
Why not come along and join in. You can come on your own because you will be looked after by us girls! You are never alone on a girlsforsail event.....especially if you wear your team shirt!
As race crew you also have the option to join us on the delivery of the boat from Cowes for an additional £50, please ask us for further details.
