Cowes Week. Racing / Sailing / Champagne tents!
What the girls had to say......
"Cowes week was one of the best experiences ever...I've just bought a wee squib...wouldn't have doen that if it wasn't for all the motivation and encouragement that still lingers on inside 4 years later! That's quite incredible and I'm so grateful for what you have given to sailing and for all the friendships that have developed from that week!" Karen Cowes Week
About the event:
Strong tides, erratic weather and 900 competitors, certainly make this a challenging event! There is always one day when you wake, turn your suntanned face up to the grey skies and wonder if are we really going to race in this?!!'
The infamous Cowes beer tent comes alive straight after racing as the crews come ashore to relax and swap stories over a few post race drinks. The fun is non stop and the buzz is really exhilarating.
The village of Cowes is a wonderful place in the sunshine. The tiny high street is a hive of activity during Cowes week with excellent restaurants and pubs which are all full of life and plenty of great 'yachtie' shops as well.
Other activities:
One of the social highlights is the final night fireworks on the Friday. An un-missable night out! In the evenings, there is a huge programme of entertainment with well-known bands featured on the main stage.
And then, theres the general socialising!! If you work it out...900 boats with an average of 10 people aboard thats ....9000 sailors...no wonder lil ole Cowes is buzzing!! Sadly, its still exceptionally male dominated so the beer tents are still packed with happy chaps having lots of racing discussions!!
There are a huge range of pubs, restaurants and even black tie dinners to attend so we can help coordinate the social programme to make sure the whole team are happy!
Why not come along and join in. You can come on your own because you wil be looked after by us girls! You are never alone on a girlsforsail event.....especially if you wear your team shirt!
