About the event
The fourth weekend of March is when the "Crown Jewel" of Caribbean racing takes place-where sailors can experience reliable breezes, warm azure waters and world-renowned Island hospitality. The competition and the camaraderie is unsurpassed and the courses are a high calibre mix of round the island distance races and windward/leewards designed to test your skills and showcase the stunning shoreline.
We offer a full train/race package during which time we'll cover:
• Racing rules
• Starting techniques
• Upwind boat handling
• Downwind boat handling
Our professional crew will train you to ensure that the racing is safe, fun and that each crew member is able to make a valuable contribution to the team effort. Prior race experience is not essential although some previous sailing experience is handy. The skipper will assess the overall crew capability before deciding whether to race in the spinnaker class or not.
About the Island
St. Thomas is home to the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Charlotte Amalie and is largely mountainous and a water lover's paradise. For an amazing trip why not add in a few beach days, snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite boarding, fishing, kayaking and parasailing. On land you can play a round of golf, take an island tour, check out some attractions, take in the historical sites downtown and do some shopping. The Cyril E. King Airport serves travellers coming to St. Thomas. Visitors staying on St. John and Water Island can easily daytrip to St. Thomas; daily ferry service is available. St. Thomas is connected to St. Croix by regular interisland air service and a ferry.
Other activities
Post-racing parties are planned for every night providing an excellent opportunity to swap stories over a few drinks. The fun is non stop and the buzz is really exhilarating! If you plan a few extra days stay then there are loads of amazingly beautiful places to swim, snorkel and visit.
